Farah is an Arabian mare that was purchased in the parking lot of a low end auction for $100 to save her from having to go through that horrible process. She had foundered in both front hooves, they cut off her beautiful hair, and she was emaciated. Now she is a sanctuary ambassador.

Reina is a mare from a kill pen in Texas. We were going through the list of horses next set to be added to the slaughter truck and I saw her and kind of kept scrolling thinking she’s so cute she’s going to be snatched up and I don’t think she’s even on the list. Fast forward a few hours and between us and a few other rescues we had placed the entire shipping list or so we thought. I went back and double checked dates (horses are given an online profile for about a week to get a home before they ship to another awful kill pen across the US or to slaughter) and had to click on her because I’m a sucker for a bay mare and she was set to ship the next day. We scooped her up with the rest of our group and we are so glad we did. She is such a sweet girl. The kill pen had done a good job of hiding what bad shape she was in so when we finally saw her in person we were all shocked at how skinny she was. She is putting weight on nicely and getting sweeter and sweeter
