PDAS has rescued over 130 souls and counting! They arrive sickly and afraid. The most crucial time in their journey is the first few months in our care. Getting weight on the emaciated horses and dealing with their underlying health issues takes an entire team. Then we work on helping them learn to trust.
We rescue horses, donkeys, and animal of all kids of all ages regardless of their physical condition and work to rehabilitate them. If they are adoptable, we work to find them new loving homes. We provide sanctuary when they are not adoptable due to a health condition, severe neglect or abuse. They will live out their days knowing they’ll always be loved and cared for as therapy animals for all that come to Paradise Dreams Animal Sanctuary.
One of the greatest ways you can support our rescued residents is by being a sponsor! We have multiple sponsorship opportunities available at every level so that generous donors like yourself can contribute to the care of the animals at the Sanctuary. Your sponsorship will provide a portion of the necessary food, supplement, medical care, shelter/bedding, and enrichment essential for each Sanctuary resident’s well-being. * If this is a gift, please include the name & mailing address of the recipient in the Notes *
Eragon, suffers from uveitis/moon blindness. He was hospitalized for a week after his starvation drove him to eat hair, causing an impaction. He was SO skinny. We really thought we were going to lose him. Now, our pink-skinned, sun-sensitive boy is doing GREAT! He was one of the hardest to get the first 50lbs on.
Rhett is a Quarter horse gelding rescued from Texas kill pen. He was part of a “dude ranch” that went out of business during the pandemic and ended up in kill pen where his sweet temperament was no match. Rhett was very sick in quarantine and had a lot of healing to do after being beaten up in the kill pen.

Zephyr’s is a Peruvian Paso mare that we got from a kill pen auction in Oregon. The people that dropped her off said that they got her from the same auction a few years earlier. She had a couple babies for them and they worked with rehabilitating her to trust people after going through the auction… Just to send her back to the same auction when their daughter lost interest.

Homer was rescued from a kill pen in Oklahoma. He was impaled almost to the jugular while in a chute at the auction. PDAS quickly scooped him up and got him the veterinary care that he needed. Homer arrived totally shut down. He has come out of his shell, made a best fried (Mr. Ed) and LOVES to be around people.
Thor the smallest Belgian that we have, came from a kill pen in Texas. What he lacks in size he makes up for in personality as runs around like a bulldog, keeping all of the myriad of horses in line. The vet think he was experimented on due to his weird ski lesions that are isolated throughout his body.
Mico is a paint yearling. The kill pen forgot to post him which took away his chance of exposure. They were going to put him on the slaughter truck anyway - making him a direct ship horse- but we got him.
Caspian came from a Texas kill pen. He and Mico stick together like glue ever since quarantine.
Treasure is a paint gelding that was a family horse. They even road him to church. He was left at a kill pen in Texas., VERY skinny. Treasure is a sweet, sweet boy
Downton is a teenaged mustang gelding that recently arrived to PDAS from a kill pen in Louisiana.
Sara is a thoroughbred cross mare from a Louisiana kill pen . She arrived extremely skinny and shut down. Sara miscarried her baby in quarantine. She has made a huge physical transformation and has stopped hiding her self as much in her herd. Give her a little bit more time and I think she would blossom one on one with a person.
Prada is a mustang mare that recently arrived to PDAS.
Orchid is a Broodmare that no one wanted. She had huge cuts on her legs and face that required immediate vet intervention and daily wound care from our team.
ADOPTED!
Adagio (Gio) is secret pocket mustang. He’s 13hh max and the kill pen was trying to claim he was just a pony and not a mustang. I don’t know if this is the case but kill pens should check with the BLM before they let mustangs get sold on and technically they aren’t allowed to ship to slaughter…does that work….no…but might be why they didn’t advertise him as a mustang even though we could see his freezemark He had one shoe on and was pretty sore and sick but he is doing so much better and everyone falls in love with him when the meet him.
Charlotte is a Quarter Horse rescued from Arkansas. Pippen was only 4wks old when their owner was going to send them to auction. We were able to get them before they went through auction
Kaya is a Quarter horse mare rescued from a kill pen in Texas. She was very scared when she arrived at quarantine. She would immediately start to sweat and shake if someone went into her stall. The herd has helped heal her and give her some trust back.
Bob is a mini donkey from Oklahoma kill pen. Just a cute little muffin with his second position feet
Ellie is a draft cross mare that was brought to a kill pen in Oklahoma in a big group. Every single one of her friends got a home and Ellie was being overlooked. We saw her. She is unhandled but the fear is dissipating making way for a super curious and personable mare.
Matilda is a QH yearling from an Oklahoma kill pen. When all of Ellie’s friends got homes without her the staff at the kill pen put Matilda in with Ellie to keep her company. We don’t leave friends behind so welcome to CA Matilda.

Admiral is a TWH/QH 2003 gelding from a kill pen in Texas. They rode him even though he was very lame to show how broke he was. He came in with front shoes half on and in need of some help with his weight. He keeps his herd in line but is a gentle sweet boy with employees and volunteers.
Fostered!!
Apollo is a mini from an Oklahoma kill pen . He was a stallion who we gelded while in quarantine. He was very defensive at the kill pen which put off home offers for him. He just needed a chance to unwind. He is Mr personality and is the first one to greet you with a very high pitched (Guinea pig like) whinny.
Costa is a senior quarter horse at a kill pen in Louisiana. He was very skinny and shut down. Didn’t want to interact with people or horses. Now he has a group of friends and is starting to want human attention.
Arabelle is a 5yr old Belgian cross mare with a dislocated hip from a kill pen in Texas. She hid behind Pandora for a few months but loves a cookie and is starting to come up for attention. Her mobility has improved a lot.
Franny (14) was an owner surrender. A very nice lady reached out to us to provide sanctuary for them. She had taken them out of a neglectful situation and done a great job getting weight back on them. She wasn’t able to provide a forever home for them but did the right thing reaching out for help. Franny was a broodmare and Joey was a stallion pasture ornament. He has been gelded and is doing being a good boy integrating in small groups as he had been kept isolated as a stallion. Franny was very upset and is starting to come into her own
Gem is a Tennessee walker x quarter horse mare from a kill pen auction in Louisiana. She was super fearful and very sick in quarantine (zoom in on nose). She attached herself to Saxten once they got to California.

Magic is a Mustang mare from an Oklahoma kill pen. She is very bonded Takoda.
Takoda is a Mustang gelding from an Oklahoma kill pen. He is very bonded to Magic.
Reina is a mare from a kill pen in Texas. We were going through the list of horses next set to be added to the slaughter truck and I saw her and kind of kept scrolling thinking she’s so cute she’s going to be snatched up and I don’t think she’s even on the list. Fast forward a few hours and between us and a few other rescues we had placed the entire shipping list or so we thought. I went back and double checked dates (horses are given an online profile for about a week to get a home before they ship to another awful kill pen across the US or to slaughter) and had to click on her because I’m a sucker for a bay mare and she was set to ship the next day. We scooped her up with the rest of our group and we are so glad we did. She is such a sweet girl. The kill pen had done a good job of hiding what bad shape she was in so when we finally saw her in person we were all shocked at how skinny she was. She is putting weight on nicely and getting sweeter and sweeter.
Radar & Echo are super bonded mustang geldings. They were in a big group of bay mustang geldings at a kill pen in Oklahoma. We were watching the group making sure everyone got a forever home and when it got down to the last three a rescue that is actually located very close to us got one so we got the remaining two. They got to quarantine and travel out to CA together. We gave them all time together once they arrived but when they were ready Durango (their buddy) went to his amazing home and radar and echo got introduced to one of our herds. They kept to themselves for a while moving as one throughout the pasture but now they have expanded their friendship circle and even get chatty with the staff.
Fostered!!
Pecos is a mini donkey that was extremely sick in quarantine. He was emaciated and depressed. Once he was strong enough to make the journey from quarantine to us in California he really blossomed. Being out with all of our sweet donkeys really lifted his spirits and gave him his full strength back
Pandora, a 12 year old paint mare was dropped off pregnant and confused at a low end auction in Texas where kill buyers purchased her. They listed her online for one week to beat out meat prices and to stop her shipping to slaughter. When no home offers were coming through, we rescued Pandora. She arrived understandably angry and defensive. Through the consistent and kind care of our team, Pandora has softened and relaxed.
Pandora welcomed her baby girl on March 30th, who we've lovingly named Tea3, after a great foundation that has generously supported PDAS.
